Acupressure/Muscle
Testing (Weekdays-60 hrs- Elective) Integrates a full
body Acupressure protocol with the specific assessment and corrective
techniques of Muscle Testing and Acupressure. Acupressure employs
thumb, finger and palm pressure as well as stretches and articulations
along the meridian pathways. Muscle Testing offers precise assessment
and balancing tools for addressing weaknesses and pain patterns
within the interdependent systems of the muscles, organs and
meridians. The approach addresses causative factors for muscle/organ
imbalances including diet, thought, emotion and activity. Students
learn a powerful clothed table session integrating acupressure,
muscle testing, neurolymphatic and neurovascular balances, that
systematically tonifies the functions of the organs and meridians
as well as addresses chronic myofascial pain. Students learn
to assess and treat a variety of common pathology syndromes.
The module includes both classroom and clinic hours. |

|
| |
Barefoot/Deep
Tissue (Weekends-20 hrs-III) Presents a full body protocol
for deeply working the major muscle groups using the therapist's
feet. The technique is especially effective for physically active
people, athletes and bodies that require sufficient force to
effectively release core muscular tension. The method is a life-saver
for hands, wrists and shoulders that tend to become overworked
using traditional massage techniques. Barefoot is a core bodywork
protocol for athletes. The work is also applicable for basically
healthy people who want an overall deep tissue release. The
module includes both classroom and clinic hours. |

Craniosacral
Therapy I (Weekends-30 hrs-Elective) SBBTI's Craniosacral
series is based on the biodynamic model of the subtle, rhythmic
movement that occurs within the skeletal system as the cerebrospinal
fluid circulates from the 4th ventricle of the brain through
the cranium, spinal chord and sacrum. The cranial wave includes:
the craniosacral impulse, the mid-tides & long-tides. The
craniosacral impulse comprises the flexion and extension of
the craniosacral system that occurs 6-12 times per minute. The
mid-tide and long-tide rhythms are slower, one to two minute
cycles, within the craniosacral system, that arise as the client
accesses deeper states of parasympathetic activation. As balance
occurs within the cranial wave clients often experience relief
from core issues as well as the superficial symptoms of pain
and malaise. In Craniosacral Therapy I students learn to monitor
the cranial wave and provide a fulcrum for rebalancing the rhythmic
movement of the sacrum, occiput and sphenoid. |
| |
|
| |
Craniosacral
Therapy II (Weekends-30 hrs-Elective) In Craniosacral
II, students deepen their capacity to monitor the oceanic environment
of the cerebrospinal fluid. Students learn additional balances
for the temporal, parietal, frontal, zygomatic bones, maxilla,
and mandible. Students integrate holds from CS I & II into
a full session protocol. Includes classroom, clinic and lab. |

Deep
Tissue/Muscle Stripping and PNF (Weeknights-80hrs-Elective)
Integrates the fundamentals of myofascial therapy, muscle stripping,
compression and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and
stretching. Myofascial therapy involves direct pressure to hypersensitive
areas in the muscle, skin, fascia, tendons, periosteum and joint
capsules. Muscle stripping involves slow, deep, gliding pressure
to the fascia along the muscle fibers. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular
Facilitation (PNF) involves assisted passive, active and resistive
stretches of muscles to utilize reciprocal inhibition. Muscle
stripping is effective for improving postural alignment; increasing
range of motion; breaking up adhesions caused by micro-scarring,
injury or surgery; activating connective tissue regeneration;
and addressing myofascial pain. The work is applicable to a
variety of myofascial pain syndromes including headaches, sciatic
pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis,
tendonosis, muscle strains, piriformis syndrome, TMJ syndrome,
lower back pain, and frozen shoulder. The module includes both
classroom and clinic hours. |

Deep
Tissue/Trigger Point (Weekdays/nights-60hrs-Level II Requirement)
Covers how to treat trigger points and injuries. Trigger points
are areas of hyperirritability within soft tissue that develops
when a muscle is injured or overworked. Trigger points caused
by trauma create changes in the chemical balance in the tissue,
irritating the sensory systems. Trigger points are characterized
by local tenderness and referred phenomena, which can include,
pain, tingling, numbness, burning or itching. Therapists learn
direct pressure techniques with fingers, thumbs and tools to
assess and alleviate trigger points, as well as crossfiber friction
techniques for breaking up scar tissue, releasing adhesions
and speeding tissue repair. The work is applicable to a variety
of syndromes including: dizziness, earaches, nausea, numbness
in hands and feet, headaches, neck and jaw pain, low back pain,
hamstring pulls, tendonosis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome
and assorted myofascial pain syndromes. The module includes
both classroom and clinic. |

longing will be explored, within the context of the massage practice.
Students learn to define their own personal ethics while understanding
industry standards. |

two primary western approaches to stimulating lymphatic drainage
through massage: Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and Integrative
Lymphatic Drainage. MLD involves light, pulsing contact techniques,
while integrative lymphatic drainage massage involves slow,
deep effleurage techniques specifically following the lymphatic
pathways. Both approaches begin with clearing congestion within
the abdomen. The work proceeds to progressively drain the lymph
through the more superficial pathways in the upper torso and
extremities, back towards the deep nodes in the abdomen for
final elimination through the large intestine. Students will
learn to apply the techniques on themselves for daily lymphatic
self care, as well as how to safely apply the techniques with
clients. |
