An integral part of training our students receive during our Level
I Massage Technician Program involves giving massage to the public
in our clincs. Clinics take place afternoons and evenings (call
for current schedule). Students have 15 minutes prior to clients'
arrival in order to set up their workspace with screens and dividers
to break up the classroom into cubicle-like areas. Occassionally
we will have students team up in pairs to practice tandem massage,
a student may be assigned to "shadow" or observe the other students
as they work, or may work on a floating basis providing support
to other student therapists with energy balance or reflexology on
clients. Our Level I Massage Technician Program combines classroom
hours with an internship in student clinics to provide a professional,
safe transition into the role of professional therapist with their
own practice.
Sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length and begin with
the student therapist reviewing the Client Intake form with their
client. After the session, student and client again complete the
final portion of the Intake form and the student prepares for a
second client. Clinics end with the classroom space being cleaned
up and returned to normal. Students receive 3 hours credit
for each clinic.
Clinic sessions for the public are available, by appointment, during
either the afternoon or evening sessions. The charge to the public
covers the cost of running the clinic, with a portion of the proceeds
donated to numerous non-profit organizations worldwide to support
indigenous peoples and ending poverty in third world countries.
